What is the Role:
The Mechanical Design Engineer is responsible for the design and development of new product designs and improvement of existing designs using 2D and 3D CAD software and machine design principles. In addition, this individual will provide technical and product support to the internal and external supply chains for execution of the products portfolio.
In This Role You Will:
• Use mechanical engineering principles to design new and upgrade existing product lines from idea to execution.
• Create ideas to improve existing products and designs for both performance and manufacturability.
• Perform calculations related to the design of mechanical equipment, mechanisms and machines, including gear ratios, torque, beam deflection, shear etc.
• Use problem solving techniques to bring resolution to problems and prevent repeat quality or mechanical issues.
• Use knowledge of bearings, various transmission components (sprockets, chain, spur gears, bevel gears, installation techniques, etc.), pneumatic systems (air cylinders, regulators, flow control valves, solenoid valves), electromechanical devices and machine components to design machinery.
• Identify key design trends that impact commercial potential.
• Work closely with the electrical/controls engineering group to incorporate required electromechanical devices and develop theory of operation.
• Use knowledge of weldments, sheet metal and machining processes.
• Use Solidworks and EPDM, AutoCAD, ERP/MRP, BOM, Routings, and ECN’s as well as office software to aid in design and maintenance of engineering drawings, 3D models and bom’s.
• Collaborate with adjacent departments, as necessary.
• Travel to customer sites and/or alternate company locations (Less than 10% of the time.)
• Performs all other duties and tasks as assigned.
What You Bring:
• Associates Degree/Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering and 7 or more years of practical experience
• 2 or more years in the design of Capital Goods
• Strong mechanical background
• Familiarity with electromechanical devices and fundamentals of machine design
• Can work independently to objectives; however, recognizes when to collaborate on key issues.
• Values personal involvement and partnership with all disciplines within the organization.
• Experience in collaborating with external knowledge bases.
• Effective communicator via both oral and written documentation.
• Enjoys coaching and sharing knowledge with cross-functional teams.

• Proven experience in mechanical engineering principles
• Proficient in the use of design platforming principles and design for manufacturing.
• Possess and maintain technical expertise in SOLIDWORKS PDM software and related applications.
